Let the last summer Saturday be filled with music! World-renowned piano virtuoso Alexander Paley and three other talented performers invite you to the eighth music marathon: the magical Midsummer Night’s Dream.
This marathon is dedicated to German composer Felix Mendelssohn. According to Paley, he is an exceptional figure in the world’s music and one of the most important composers in history: “a man kissed by God, the second Mozart.” The composer died at the age of thirty-eight, yet wrote a tremendous amount of music. “His entire life was like a midsummer night’s dream,” says Paley.
The musicians will perform not only such famous works as the Wedding March, written for the play A Midsummer Night’s Dream, but also compositions that will be heard in Lithuania for the first time, such as the String Octet, which the composer himself transcribed for piano four hands. The concept of the event itself, an entire day dedicated solely to Mendelssohn’s music, is also unique in Lithuania.
