M. K. Čiurlionis, The Serpent, looks down to the Man… What does the world know about him, born 150 years ago? How much courage, drive, energy, sensitivity to ourselves, music, motherland did we learn through him? The programme is an innovative look at the works of one of Lithuania’s most famous artists and composers.
The first musical glimpse at the artist is provided by contemporary Lithuanian composer Giedrius Kuprevičius. His Sonata of The Serpent is inspired by the cycle of paintings of the same name by Čiurlionis. The centrepiece of the programme is a transcription for solo piano of the only string quartet written during the composer’s studies in Leipzig, transcribed by Mūza Rubackytė. Finally – six Druskininkai preludes, composed in three weeks in his native Druskininkai.
Pianist Eglė Andrejevaitė, winner of international competitions, has been putting special emphasis on thematic solo concert programmes since 2013. They were performed in Lithuania, Italy, Australia, USA.
