Juozas Rimas is the first performer of compositions for the oboe of about fifty Lithuanian and foreign composers. In 1971, he became the first wind instrument performer in Lithuania to hold a two-part recital at the State Philharmonic Hall. He has presented papers at scientific conferences and performed as a soloist at various music festivals. He has been awarded the Order of Vytautas the Great and the Government Award for the Arts.
“I understand our folk songs as perfect miniatures. When singing both them and Schubert’s songs, I do not follow or imitate anything in any way. I adhere strictly to the logic of music and poetry texts. Like every musical composition, a song requires authentic openness, an interpretation that reflects its distinctive and essential intonations. Schubert was the first prominent figure in the history of musical Romanticism and one of the most significant melodists. Central to his work are songs demanding subtle vocalization, known as the Lied style.”
