At Paliesius manor, we will start the colourful month of October with colourful music! On 4 October, two talented performers, pianist Emilija Žukauskaitė and cellist Giedrius Žukauskas, will present Fauré’s Sonatas for cello and piano, rarely heard in Lithuania.
Fauré’s late works are a feast for chamber music lovers. This music is full of appreciation for natural beauty and is enriched by the intensity of the great cultural and secular changes of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. However, the sonatas for cello and piano written by this great impressionist cannot be placed in any clear-cut epochal framework. These works are almost like modern paintings, done by a man with a romantic soul. They are youthful landscapes by an artist who has achieved undisputed recognition and true wisdom, where even premonitions of the end of life are transformed into colourful butterflies fluttering in a meadow illuminated by the setting sun.
