Pianist Jurgis Karnavičius, who in 2022-2024 presented a grandiose cycle of Philip Glass’s 20 etudes for piano to the concert-goers of Paliesius Manor, returns with a new programme. This will be a unique opportunity to hear selected Nocturnes for piano by the French Romantic composer Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924) in one concert.
Gabriel Fauré’s 13 Nocturnes, rarely heard in concert halls, are undoubtedly among the finest examples of the genre in the world’s piano literature. Following in the tradition begun by Field and Chopin, Fauré’s Nocturnes reveal the most subtle poetry, passionate and intimate lyricism, and a highly refined style. Composed over several decades, these pieces radiate a special beauty that is unique to them, and at the same time testify to the extraordinary evolution of the composer’s style, from gentle romanticism to the modern aesthetics of the early 20th century.
