In February 2022, Paliesius’ audience listened to Philip Glass‘ Etudes, performed by Jurgis Karnavičius. However, only Book 1, the first 10 etudes, was played. And now we invite everyone to the continuation of the concert: Karnavičius will perform Book 2 of the Etudes (11-20): different, written after almost 20 years, “often bolder in finding new structures and fresh keyboard colours”.
Jurgis Karnavičius is one of the most famous Lithuanian pianists of the older generation. He is a laureate of several competitions, such as the International Ludwig van Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna, a professor at the LMTA Piano Department and a frequent member of evaluation committees at various international competitions. Karnavičius has performed with many Lithuanian chamber orchestras and his wife, soloist Sigutė Stonytė. But his concerts are rare: the pianist is strict with himself and spends a long time maturing his creative ideas so that he can form the richest range of emotions to evoke.
